Lake Marion is an reservoir on the Santee River and the largest lake in South Carolina. When the river was being dammed to create the lake, much of the flooplain land was left uncleared of its forests. As a result, there are numerous and large areas of swamps, flooded trees, and stumps which provide great habitat for wildlife and scenic paddling opportunities.
