This section of the Twelve Mile River begins on Town Creek and is very short. There is a high chance for woody debris in this section; paddlers should use caution and avoid strainers at all times. This stretch is narrow but scenic and beginner friendly.
River access and parking are located upstream river-left. Limited roadside parking is available along Shady Grove Road. Please park along the road and do not block driveways. This access is unofficial. Use at your own risk.
River access is located along the grassy clearing, south of the entrance, river-left. Also available are restrooms, lighted parking lots, and covered picnic areas.
The Bargain Exchange Flea Market is less than 5 minutes away from Shady Grove Road. Once in the river, paddlers will immediately cross under the Shady Grove Road bridge. After Town Creek joins the Twelve Mile River, the Walhalla Highway bridge is 0.5 miles downstream. After crossing under the Walhalla Highway bridge, paddlers will see the beginning of the Flea Market. You will pass a large stone retaining wall on the right; take out in the grassy field area river right after the retaining wall. Also availalbe are restrooms, lighted parking lots, and covered picnic areas. Bargain Exchange Flea Market is currently only open Monday through Wednesday, dawn to dusk.
