Just below the popular whitewater section, the Twelve Mile River widens and slows and it enters Lake Hartwell, creating lake-like paddling conditions. This section is very beginner friendly in terms of difficulty.
Limited roadside parking is available on the east side of the road. The river access is river-left and is unofficial but widely used. Use at your own risk. Do not consume fish caught in the Twelve Mile River and upper reaches of Lake Hartwell due to a PCB Advisory still in effect.
Limited roadside parking is available downstream river-left. Access the river from the bank, a short walk from the road.
Put in is located downstream of the Lay Bridge Road bridge, river left. Limited roadside parking is available. This access is unofficial; use at your own risk. Once on the river, paddlers will experience very lazy waters and wide, clear channels. The first road crossing you come across will be Maw Bridge Road; take out is located downstream of the bridge, river left. Limited roadside parking is available along Maw Bridge Road.
