A very popular whitewater destination, this section is highly utilized by whitewater paddlers and especially popular after rain events. With nearly 4 miles of exciting Class II-III rapids, paddlers can expect to see many ledges and whitewater in this heavily bouldered stretch.
This access and off road parking is provided by Easley Central Water District and is open from dawn to dusk. Do not block the road or the driveway. For guidance on paddling this 1.8 mile stretch of whitewater, visit American Whitewater's website. The location of the future Cateechee Beach Park, opening in 2018, is downstream of the bridge, river-right.
Limited roadside parking is available on the east side of the road, river-left. The river can be accessed downstream of the bridge, river- left.
This river’s take out and put in are very close to residential and high-traffic roads. Be aware as you change and set shuttle/run laps. Parking is available at the Critters Creek Parking Area, below the Easley Central Dam. Do not drive up the private driveway as you will block the landowners that live at the end of that road. A trail leads from the parking area to the river, and paddlers can walk along the banks closer to the dam to begin their trip. Once on the river, Lay Bridge Road is the next road crossing. Take out is located downstream of the bridge, river left. This trip includes many exciting Class I-IV rapids and is especially exciting after large rain events.
