There are sections of rapids ranging from Class II to Class IV along this section of the Middle Saluda River. Beginning in the Jones Gap State Park, paddlers can expect to see mountain river backdrops, rural countryside, and pristine waters, intermixed with technically challenging rapids.
This is an advanced section with Class III-V rapids. You must obtain a permit from the Park's headquarters before paddling within Jones Gap. For more information on this section, visit: www.upstateforever.org/paddleJG.
River access is upstream of Highway 11, river-right. Parking is available at Echo Valley Plaza.
Jones Gap State Park is a 15 minute drive from the Echo Valley Plaza Gas Station on Highway 11, so shuttling cars could take about half an hour. Because the put in is located within Jones Gap State Park, paddlers should check in at the Jones Gap Headquarters for instructions and directions. Once on the river, there are Class II-IV rapids along the trip. The take out is the 7th bridge crossing. Paddlers should take out at Highway 11 bridge, upstream river right, and portage boats 0.25 miles to the Echo Valley Plaza Gas Station.
